Range Repair in San Diego
We service freestanding, slide-in and professional-style ranges from 30 to 60 inches, gas, electric, induction and dual-fuel. Work covers burners and igniters, oven igniters and valves, elements and sensors, convection fans, door hinges and springs, griddles, warming drawers and control boards.
Working in San Diego homes, condos and rentals
A range combines a cooktop and an oven that share a cabinet and a control panel, sometimes on different fuels, as in dual-fuel models with gas burners over an electric oven. That means two diagnoses rather than one. Professional-style ranges add high-output burners, heavier doors and sometimes a griddle or a second oven.

What your range is telling you
The symptoms we are asked about most, and what usually sits behind each one. A symptom narrows the search; the technician confirms the failed part before quoting.
- Dual-fuel: burners work, oven dead
- The oven side is electric with its own 240-volt supply: a breaker, element, sensor or control.
- One oven of a double-oven range not heating
- Each cavity has its own element or burner and sensor, so the fault is local to that oven.
- Rear burners weaker than the front
- Supply pressure, a regulator fault or partly blocked ports.
- Sparking keeps going after the burner lights
- A wet or failed spark switch, or a flame not reaching the igniter.
- Pro-style oven slow to reach temperature
- A tired bake igniter or valve, or a convection fan not running in a large cavity.
- Gap or wobble at a slide-in range
- Leveling legs or the anti-tip bracket, which also affect how evenly it bakes.
Before you book a range repair
Safe checks you can do first
- On a dual-fuel range, check the breaker for the oven before assuming a part has failed.
- Clear burner ports and reseat caps; on sealed burners, check the igniter is clean and dry.
- Set the clock and turn off any Sabbath or control lock mode.
- Use an oven thermometer to confirm the temperature before calibrating.
Unplug the appliance or switch it off at the breaker before reaching behind or inside it.
When to call a technician
- Any persistent gas smell. If it is strong, leave and call SDG&E or 911 from outside.
- A slide-in or pro-style range needs to come out from between the cabinets.
- Error codes affect both the cooktop and the oven.
- The range trips its breaker.

Range Repair — Common Questions

Still have questions?
Tell us what the appliance is doing and we'll arrange a visit anywhere in our San Diego service area.
Yes, including Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Bertazzoni, Thor Kitchen, DCS and others. Their sealed burners, high-output valves and large oven cavities are serviceable, and parts that would end a budget range's life are routine repairs on these.
On a dual-fuel range the cooktop runs on gas while the oven is electric, with its own 240-volt supply. Check that the range's breaker has not tripped. If the breaker is fine, the fault is in the oven's element, sensor, control or wiring, and the gas side tells us nothing about it.
Yes, on many ranges all the igniters spark together when any burner is turned on. It is only a fault if the clicking continues after the burner lights or happens with every knob off, which usually means a wet or failed spark switch.
Slide-in ranges sit tight against the countertop and cabinets, so we protect the edges and floor and pull the unit straight out on sliders. On gas models we shut off the supply valve first and leak-test the connection after the range goes back.
Range repair in San Diego
Range repair across San Diego County — 44 service areas, 87 ZIP codes, and 31 manufacturers that actually build ranges. Most repairs run $130–$450 and take about 1–2.5 hours on site, including diagnosis.
We work a range in a set order: cooktop and oven separately — they share a cabinet and a control panel but little else, so a fault on one rarely explains a fault on the other. That sequence exists because it is the cheapest path to the right answer, not the fastest path to a sale — and it is why we diagnose in your home rather than quoting from a description.

The range symptom most often misread
Across every brand we service, the range fault we see misinterpreted most is an oven temperature complaint blamed on the thermostat when the door gasket or hinge springs have worn and heat is leaving faster than the element can replace it. It matters because the wrong reading leads to the wrong part, and on a range the wrong part is often the most expensive one in the machine.
That is the value of a diagnostic visit: not confirming that the appliance is broken, which you already know, but establishing which component failed and what it will cost to put right — before you have committed to anything.
What San Diego does to a range
Two local conditions shape range work here more than anything else. The first is water: most of what reaches San Diego taps is imported from the Colorado River and Northern California, and it is hard, so scale builds on heating elements, inlet valves and sensors until it shows up as a fault code that looks electronic. For a range specifically, the factor that matters is the range of equipment in San Diego kitchens, from builder-grade freestanding models to 36- and 48-inch professional ranges, and the growing number of induction ranges in remodeled and all-electric homes.
The second is geography. Near the coast, salt air and the marine layer corrode coils, connectors and hinges. Inland, hot summers and Santa Ana winds put garage appliances under real heat stress. Downtown and Mission Valley condos add compact equipment and building logistics, the older uptown and South Bay neighborhoods add aging wiring, gas lines and drains, and the backcountry adds well water, propane and long rural power lines. The same range behaves differently in each.
